Multi Mode Fiber SFP

Almost all multimode fiber sizes are 50/125um or 62.5/125um, and the bandwidth (the amount of information transmitted by the fiber) is usually 200MHz to 2GHz. Multimode optical transceivers can transmit up to 5 kilometers through multimode optical fibers. Use light-emitting diodes or lasers as light sources. The pull tab or external color is black.

Multi mode fiber SFP module is a small form-factor pluggable (SFP) optical module designed for short-distance fiber communications.

Almost all multimode optical fibers are 50/125μm or 62.5/125μm in size, and their bandwidth (the amount of information they can transmit) typically ranges from 200MHz to 2GHz. Multimode optical transceivers can transmit up to 5 kilometers over multimode fiber. They use light-emitting diodes or lasers as their light source. The pull ring or outer casing is black.

Product Features

Fast Transmission Speed

Our multi mode fiber SFP modules use vertical cavity surface emitting lasers. This laser is able to switch the optical signal on and off faster. The faster the signal switches, the higher the data transmission rate. Therefore, our device can achieve a data transmission rate of 10.3125Gbps, which is much higher than the 1.25Gbps of traditional devices.

Low Power Consumption
The circuit power consumption of our multimode fiber SFP module is only 0.7W, and the maximum power consumption does not exceed 1W. Compared with the common fiber modules on the market with power consumption of 1.2W to 1.5W, our products have better energy-saving effects. In a large data center with 1,000 SFP modules, using our products can save about 4,380kWh of electricity per year, equivalent to $438 in electricity costs.

Strong Anti-interference Ability

In a strong electromagnetic interference (EMI) environment, the deterioration of signal quality will lead to an increase in bit error rate. Standard optical modules usually require a 35dB signal-to-noise ratio to achieve a low bit error rate of 10⁻¹², while our modules can maintain the same bit error rate in a 30dB signal-to-noise ratio environment. This shows that our modules have lower requirements for signal quality and can still maintain a low bit error rate in a high-noise environment.

FAQ

Q:What are single-mode and multi mode Fiber SFP?

Single-mode (SM) Fiber SFP have fewer limitations and are suitable for long-distance data transmission. Multimode (MM) Fiber SFP can transmit multiple modes of light and are suitable for short-distance transmission. The terms single-mode and multimode in Fiber SFP actually refer to the type of optical fiber connected to the module. They are distinguished by the color of the pull tab. For example: a black pull tab indicates a multimode module with an 850nm wavelength; a blue pull tab indicates a 1310nm wavelength module; a yellow or green pull tab indicates a 1550nm wavelength module; and a purple pull tab indicates a 1490nm wavelength module.

Q:The difference between single-mode Fiber SFP and Multi Mode Fiber SFP
(1) Different wavelengths
The operating wavelength of multi-mode Fiber SFP is generally 850nm, while the operating wavelength of single-mode Fiber SFP is generally 1310nm or 1550nm.
(2) Different transmission distances
Single-mode Fiber SFP are often used for long-distance transmission, with a transmission distance of up to 150 to 200km. Multi-mode Fiber SFP are mostly used for short-distance transmission, and multi-mode Fiber SFP can be used for transmission distances below 2km.
(3) Different fiber types
According to the transmission mode of the Fiber SFP in the optical fiber, the optical fiber can be divided into single-mode optical fiber and multi-mode optical fiber. The fiber diameter of multi-mode optical fiber (MMF) is generally 50/125μm or 62.5/125μm, and the fiber diameter of single-mode optical fiber (SMF) is 9/125μm.
(4) Different light sources
The light source of a single-mode Fiber SFP is an LD or an LED with a narrow spectral line, while the light source of a multi-mode Fiber SFP is a light-emitting diode or a laser.

(5) Different application scopes
Single-mode Fiber SFP are mostly used in lines with relatively high transmission rates and relatively long distances, such as metropolitan area network construction.
Multi-mode Fiber SFP are mostly used in short-distance transmission. Transmissions with a large number of network nodes and connectors are also very suitable for the application of multi-mode Fiber SFP.
In addition, multi-mode devices can only operate effectively on multi-mode Fiber SFP, while single-mode devices can operate on both single-mode and multi-mode optical fibers. However,
single-mode devices cannot guarantee the effect on multi-mode optical fibers.
(6) Different prices
Although single-mode optical fibers are cheaper than multi-mode optical fibers, single-mode Fiber SFP are much more expensive than multi-mode Fiber SFP.
When using single-mode Fiber SFP, there must be a margin for the received power. Multi-mode Fiber SFP can only send signals of one wavelength and cannot be used in conjunction with a multiplexer.
Multi mode Fiber SFP are limited to operating on multi-mode optical fibers.
