The OTDR tester, also known as the Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), is a precision optoelectronic integrated instrument widely used in the maintenance and construction of optical cable lines. It can measure the length of optical fibers, transmission attenuation of optical fibers, joint attenuation, and fault location. The method used by the OTDR tester is as follows:
1. Turn on the OTDR power supply
2. Connecting fiber optic connectors
3. Based on wavelength and refractive index, set the mode selection, wavelength, distance (automatically set first, then set according to distance), pulse width, high resolution, and testing time for OTDR.
4. Start OTDR to start measurement. During the measurement process, the connector cannot be unplugged or plugged in, and the eyes cannot see the flexible connector at the end of the optical fiber.
5. According to different optical cables, test the length, attenuation coefficient, average loss, total loss, loss and attenuation coefficient at any two points, movable joint loss, melting point loss, etc. Record the measurement data and calculate it. To reduce errors, bidirectional measurement is required.
6. Print data curves and analyze them.
